Boston Red Sox, LEGO Company and MLB Properties Create a Holiday Hit for Red Sox
Fans

Lego Models of Fenway Park, Wally the Green Monster to be Auctioned at MLB.com

ENFIELD, Conn. – Fans of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox® will
have two chances at the ultimate holiday present when bidding goes live on
MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball, for one of two unique,
LEGO® scale model creations by LEGO MasterBuilders.

A three-way collaboration among the Boston Red Sox , LEGO Company’s LEGO.com
division and Major League Baseball Properties® resulted in the idea for a 1:200
scale replica LEGO version of Fenway Park and a 12” model of the Red Sox’
mascot, Wally the Green Monster. Red Sox’ fans will be able to place individual
bids for the one-of-a-kind models beginning Thursday, December 16th for the
Wally the Green Monster model, and Friday, December 17th for the Fenway Park
model, exclusively on MLB.com.  The auction ends December 23rd at 9:00 p.m. for
both items.

All net proceeds from the auction of  both the Fenway Park Model and the
original Wally will benefit the Red Sox Foundation, the team’s nonprofit arm
which supports charitable educational, recreational, heath and social service
programs for disadvantaged children and families across New England.

LEGO Company, whose Americas division is based in Enfield, CT, employs four LEGO
MasterBuilders, each of whom could be described as the ultimate Red Sox fan.
Their combined 43 years of experience and enthusiasm for crafting magnificent
LEGO models pales in comparison to their excitement about constructing these two
unique Red Sox collectibles.

Design and construction estimates for the LEGO scale model creations are
approximately 100 hours for the Fenway Park model and 30 hours for the Wally the
Green Monster mascot model. MasterBuilders say perhaps the most challenging task
will be reproducing the unique architectural angles of Fenway Park using LEGO
elements, while the most gratifying aspect will be seeing public reaction to the
model.

The Models of Wally and Fenway Park, the oldest, smallest and most beloved
professional ballpark in the nation, can be viewed on the web at  MLB.com.

Given the breadth of “Red Sox Nation,”  fans from across the country are
expected to participate in the web auction, which will conducted by MLB.com.

NOTE: REPORTERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO RECORD THE DESIGN TEAM AS THEY PUT THE FINAL
TOUCHES ON THE MODEL OF FENWAY PARK ARE INVITED TO WATCH THOSE EFFORTS ON
THURSDAY, DEC 16th.  PLEASE MAKE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS BY CALLING MELINDA CARTER AT
THE LEGO COMPANY AT (860) 763-6696.

(...) anyone have links to the actual model section of the site? I went to mlb.com and since it started playing some sort of sound file I bailed rather quickly without digging much. Thanks! (20 years ago, 16-Dec-04, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.mediawatch)

(...) Well, we just wrapped up our holiday party and ran back to the shop to put the finishing touches on the Fenway model a few hours ago. I gotta say this was a great but challenging and nerve-wracking model to work on. Sheesh, there's not a (...) (20 years ago, 18-Dec-04, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.mediawatch, FTX) !
