Recently eBay changed the way bids are placed. Previously you had to
enter your bid amount, user name & password on one screen. Now, you
place your bid, hit enter, and then user name & password. In the
announcement section eBay mentions if you use an automated bidder

That, or an opportunity for people who sell sniping and/or automated
bidding programs to come out with a "version 2.0" of their software.
