Doesn't the US have some laws to cover what can be advertised as a sale
in terms of price, etc?
In the UK a product must have been on sale by that store at the original
price for 28 days or more before they are allowed to use the original
price as a comparison.
However, this is usually easily got round by chain stores as it only has
to be in one of their stores.
So they put the product on sale at a high price in one store for 28
days.
Then flood the rest of the stores with the sale price thereafter.
They can also just put something up as a 'Special purchase' of course,
but cannot reference a previous price (hence claiming a saving) unless
it meets that 28 day rule.
