In lugnet.org.us.gardenslug, Andy Lynch and I write:

I'm still interested in participating with some group of people -- it • needn't
be everyone, so long as it doesn't take forever -- on buying some • clearance
sets and 'drafting' parts out as an alternative distribution method.  It • just
seems like a neat experiment as well as a good way for several people to • get
the stuff they want.

I would be interested in this, but one concern is what happens if everyone
wants the same subset of pieces?  How do we break a stalemate?  Otherwise,
I'm all in favor of expanding my collection through discount purchases...
:-)

Well, I guess we would randomly determine someone to pick first, and we would
just take turns drawing an element off the table or whatever.  Not everyone
would get everything they wanted, but at a minimum you'd get 1/n of the pieces
which would be what you contributed financially and the "winnings" would tend
to be the type that you were interested in.

Alternatively, each piece (or lot of pieces) could be 'auctioned.'  The total
winning bids of each person would be tabulated and the percentage of all the
bids that each person was responsible for placing would be the percentage of
the total bill that each bidder was responsible for.

Has anyone out there ever done something like this?

Chris
