I wonder if these were some kind of marketing experiment in response to the
sales of Star Wars figures. Placing them on cards would put them in the same
kind of shelf presentation as SW figs.
It might also explain why there were so many selections of Space minifigs, when
the only change between them is color, as opposed to Town (which could have had
packs of Police, packs of citizens, etc) or Castle (which could have had
different heraldries, helmets, weapons, etc).
