The best deal for extra-large gray baseplates is currently the mosiac kit available from s@h. You get the baseplate, a bunch of black roof bricks and
about ~2000 1x1 plates in any color combination you choose.
If you don't want any of the parts other then the baseplate, i'm sure you can sell them off and get yourself quite a deal on the baseplate.
