Some of the tricker ones (IMHO):
AK => AlasKa (AL is ALabama)
HI => HawaII (there is no HA)
IA => IowA (there is no IO)
ME => MainE (MA is Massachusetts)
PA => PennsylvAniA (there is no PE)
VA => VirginiA (VI is Virgin Islands)
