Folks I wanted to let you know that my shop will be closed temporarily due
to a bogus order that has tied up hundreds of dollars of my inventory.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to warn the other honest buyers and
sellers on Brickbay and LUGNET about doing business with someone with the
username of Goshawk.
I won't go into all the details here but I have been dealing with this
person all weekend after not hearing a word from him about an order he
placed in my shop almost a month ago. He didn't respond to a single email I
sent him during that time even though he must have received them because he
left feedback for the order saying he had been on vacation. I tried my best
to be polite and patient with him but lost my patience after almost a month
of no communication.
The long and short of it is I gave him every oppportunity to communicate
with me and pay me but did not receive a response from him until I tracked
down two other email addresses he had used before and told him if I didn't
hear from him I would go public with his lack of communication and
non-payment. That elicited a rude response from him in which he complained
about his Paypal account not working and how much trouble it would be to get
money orders for "all" his orders on Brickbay, then went on to say that
while he read the Brickbay TOS to say placing an order was a contract, he
didn't read anything that said he had to pay within a few weeks.
(As an aside, ALL my buyers pay promptly - even those who pay through the
postal service never take more than a week or so to arrive. And even if
Brickbay's TOS doesn't specify timely payment - don't most people see that
as understood?)
Well, it seems like Goshawk didn't like being told he needed to follow
through with his end of the bargain because a brand new user, nyceguy52
(oddly enough with an address on the same street as Goshawk) placed an order
and then a gigantic addition to the order at my shop today. This order
dwarfs any order I have received before, even from big spenders like Larry
P, so that got my suspicions up. My suspicions were confirmed when I noted
the nearly identical postal addresses, then I noticed that nyceguy52 had
left Negative feedback for me on the order already (before I even got up and
saw the order this morning) saying this was his first time on Brickbay and
he might take a long time to pay.
I've informed Dan (the admin of Brickbay) about this and requested that he
cancel the order - I can't see that I should have to wait for the usual 2-3
week NPB process to free up hundreds of dollars of my inventory in what is
so obviously an attempt to mess up my shop and try to smear my name.
Luckily, I think the dozens of happy buyers I've dealt with here and on
Brickbay can attest to my own personal honesty.
I don't know how Dan will handle this or even if he can prevent this sort of
thing. It's sad to think that one angry individual could take this sort of
hateful action and screw up someone who is just trying to honestly deal with
other honest people, but I'm afraid I may end up having to make my shop a
private one, sharing the password only with buyers I've dealt with before.
That would prevent new buyers from getting parts from me, which may be the
whole point of Goshawk/nyceguy52's actions, but I can't see having hundreds
of dollars of my inventory tied up for a day or more (with Dan in the Hawaii
timezone it will be tonight before he can get to this I'm sure) anytime some
jerk decides to make a fradulent order.
