I've acquired these in some recent auctions and have no good way to power • them.
I just have the lamp modules, no wires. All lamps have been tested as working
by using a 4.5v battery box (which lights them pretty dimly). They're all in
pretty decent shape, with only very mild discoloring.

A number of people have made 9v-12v convertor cables. It's pretty simple,
you take a 12v cable, unscrew the power connector clip from one end, then
cut a 9V cable, strip the wires and connect the 12v clip. It does require
sacrificing some wires but once you make one, you use it to power everything
because the 12v cables allow piggybacking connections.

12v bulbs at 9v are quite a bit brighter than at 4.5v and at the lowered
voltage should last a while.

Hmm, hadn't thought about that. I'm pretty sure all my non-9V wiring is 4.5V,
but that doesn't matter, it's essentially the same wiring as 12V (which is what
allowed me to hook up the lamps to test them). Between the two wires I have
(one which came with a 4.5V battery box from a miscellaneous lot of train and
monorail stuff, and one from a recently won NISB copy of 740), I can make
connectors for 4 of my lamps (and I bet I can scare up an extra wire to make
one more connector, and I've certainly got enough 9V wire to spare. And I
certainly wouldn't miss the use of the motor from 740 as that's my only 4.5V
accessory, and it can easily be replaced by a 9V motor.

Another option would be to make some kind of battery adapter to turn the 4.5V
battery box into a 9V or 12V one.

My offer does still stand though, if anyone would like to trade for 9V lamps,
let's talk.

Frank
