Well, sometimes sad stories have happy endings. I received the package today (fortunately I was holding out until tomorrow to send more money). I think it's a lot more likely that the sheer size of the database was making searches a *lot* slower (causing customer frustration), and greatly increasing their costs without doing much to increase profits. ebay is so huge that they're (...) I noticed today that ebay (.com or .co.uk) seemed only to be listing auctions that ended in an hour(ish) or more. Normally there are auctions that end in minutes. This wasnt a lack of auctions ending within minutes though, just that they were not (...) (24 years ago, 10-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.auction)
