Didn't we have this discussion before?
When I (briefly) lived in Arkansas, many of the locals believed Arkansas to
be part of the Midwest.
IMO, the Midwest doesn't go South of the Ohio River, and if your state
considers itself to be on the Great Plain, then it ain't Midwest.
Or maybe the Midwest is everything in the Central time zone. Between the
Northern and Southern US borders, of course.

Neither MIDdle nor WEST have any Latitudinal connotations. It seems to mean In the middle (...) (25 years ago, 16-Sep-99, to lugnet.loc.us.mo)
