It's strange how hard it is to get a bunch of 'local' LEGO
train enthusiasts together (where 'local' means within 25-50
miles of where you live).
I've been trying to get some interest in the SF Bay Area,
with little success. I've even used a 'local' email list to
try to find train folks, with only one person who responded.
(The connection to this thread is: if I could get a 'local'
club going, I wanted to try and have a 'virtual' membership
level for folks who were not in the 'local' area, but wanted
some of the benefits of membership in a LTC...)
Finally, when the LEGO truck exhibit came to town, and we
organized our own get-together (the folks on the 'local' email
list, plus friends), I went with a 'physical copy' of my web
pages (printed pages, and many of the original photos, in a
binder). At the get-together, I found 6-7 more train fans, and
none had remembered seeing my original email on the 'local' list.
On the other hand, there was enough interest from the 20 or so
maniacs that attended, so we are working to build a general LEGO
Users Group, which will have a Train sub-group, as well as other
theme sub-groups.
So, we're still hacking with the basics of founding a club, and
we'll let folks know when we have it ironed out, and we'll tell
you whether we'll support 'virtual' members. :-)
On the other hand, I'd like to be included on email discussions
about how other clubs are approaching such decisions as well.
