If you have transportation, such as a rental car, you should also visit George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon, http://www.mountvernon.org, historic Williamsburg, the colonial capitol of Virginia http://www.history.org and Jamestown, the first permanent British settlement http://www.historyisfun.org These sites are a good way to learn about early colonial and US history.

The previous posts mentioned some of the many historical attractions around the area. If you are interested in more natural scenery, Great Falls Park <link (URL) (about an hour west of DC) and Shenandoah National Park <link (URL) (about two hours (...)
