Hi All,
It looks like an opportunity for a public display missed being talked about
in club forum last weekend, but there's been a fair discussion in email over
the past few days. Here's a summary;
+ Zeum (http://www.zeum.org/) is looking for a few good builders.
+ They are proposing that BayLUG present a LEGO/Mindstorms display on
October 13/14, in San Francisco.
+ Reasonable access by BART and SF Muni. No idea about parking.
+ Kids of all ages drop in, come and go, for hands-on learning.
+ Zeum already has 4 RCS kits and some other smaller Mindstorms kits.
So, we can put on a razzle-dazzle display, with some explanantion and
teaching. We can collect some instructions for various Mindstorms projects, and
then help folks build them, and explain how/why it works (or doesn't work). It
could also be a chance for some of our members to come *learn* about Mindstorms
while they help teach kids about the dynamics of building with LEGO. :-)
I think it would be a good event. I think we'd need 4-6 folks each day to
participate. We'd be the last event of the season. We might generate some new
members, or at least get some extra visitors at the BayLUG meeting in Fremont
two weeks later! ;-)
Of course, this means that we only have 4 weeks to plan, with two more weeks
to iron-out the last of the demos, and order the rest of the parts we'll need
for the demos. Oh yeah, we *really* need to get an answer back to them Soon!
(We'll, we're really a WEEK LATE in answering them, so we should definitely
make a decision by Monday!)
Didn't I see something in the latest catalog or Mania mag, about buying the
kit, or just plans, for a wall-crawler? This was a Really Cool Model, and I got
to look at it closely at the Mindstorms Mall Tour. Can someone point me to the
details about that model?
I also think we could have some fun with the IR stuff, since my camcorder can
actually let us *see* the IR pulses, so we can show the kids how the units can
talk to each other. :-)
This could be a lot of fun. Who else is interested? :-)
