The "Golden Studs" promotion was a mail-in offer that ran in the UK from
1974 to 1976. Each set bought contained one or more Golden Studs stickers,
dependant on value.

In 1974, you would get 2 studs in sets selling for under a Pound, 4 studs in
sets up to 2GBP, 6 studs in sets up to 4GBP, and 10 studs in larger sets! 8
studs would get you a mum figure from set 200 (worth 30p at the time!), 16
studs would get you mum and the two kids (worth 65p), while 24 would get you
a complete set worth 1.25GBP. See
http://library.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1974/c74uk/c74uk-16.html

In 1975, the number of studs on offer was less: 2 studs in sets up to 2GBP;
4 studs in sets up to 4GBP; 6 for up to 6GBP and 10 studs for anything else.
The promotion changed that year to: 8 studs for 20 red and white 8-stud
bricks (worth 30p); 16 studs for 20 bricks plus 4 large red spoked wheels
with tyres and bearing bricks (worth 65p); and 24 studs for the
aforementioned plus opening doors, windows and shutters worth 1.25GBP. See
http://library.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1975/c75uk/c75uk-16.html

In 1976, you would get 1 stud in sets under a Pound up to a maximum of 6
studs in sets costing over 5GBP. The offer was the same as in the previous
year, but the gifts were valued at 35p, 75p and 1.45GBP respectively. See
http://library.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1976/c76uk/c76uk-16.html

IIRC, the Golden Stud sticker sheets were all the same size with 2 peel-off
stickers. Each sticker contained none, one ore two studs with blank 'studs'
blacked out (I don't have any to refer to, and a Google search returns
nothing!).

HTH :-)

i have just purchased a rare set from the 70's which contained an unused
sticker sheet. the stickers are gold coloured with the following text.

"peel off these stickers stick them on the golden bricks shown on the back • of
a lego leaflet to claim free gifts. valid until 1st january 1978."

it's in perfect condition and looks like new!

does anyone know anything about these or if they have any value?

By the way the set was 698 MIB with it's own unused sticker sheet - it's a
very rare japanese airlines promo set. so i was wondering if it is better • to
leave the golden stickers with the set or to sell them seperately? - the • set
is listed in my bricklink store.

Jon, Anyone who knows that much about Golden Studs is dangerously close to 'needing to get out more'. ;-) Good post though mate. Bif (21 years ago, 6-Jun-03, to lugnet.loc.uk)
