There are some very good points here, Alastair.

I hope we can bring some of them up next time we have a meeting with
Paul (the man who was getting upset).

It really is a fantastic opportunity, which we must thank the people at
Legoland for, and we must be very careful not to abuse the privilege.

That said, I think a good time was had by all. And in particular, I was
grateful for the opportunity to talk to a representative from LEGO
Direct (even though it shortened my time at the trough - er - crates).

(and Phil Traviss won the SF set)

I also want to echo the thanks to the people at RLD & LLW who were
helpful, obliging and very generous with those "1kg" bags.  I was chatting
to the bloke from LLW who was getting a bit upset with people nicking all
the bits from Lego Heaven (we'd been asked to take only a few bits from
there, and the rest from the huge boxes back at HQ) and he was saying he
understood our enthusiasm, but didn't want all the stock nicked!  I guess
it's like touring a distillery where at the end you get all the whisky
you can drink - you might expect to taste things on the way round, but not
to go to the vault, open up their finest malt and fill a keg you brought
with you.  Maybe we need to be a bit more well-behaved if we're to
continue being given access to this fantastic resource for all those
impossible to find bits.  I say this as someone who was as bad as everyone
else in there!  And Jason - I owe you an apology - I saw an entire tub of
those tan jets, but assumed one of the AFOLs around it who knew you better
would have taken one for you.

I was thinking how it could be improved - perhaps someone could pass
feedback to the organisers?  I'd appreciate a more hands-on demonstration
of design - perhaps give us a piece of Lego graph paper to experiment
with?  It would be good to hear how things went on - e.g. if on a return
visit next year, some indication of what was new.  Perhaps increasing the
behind-the-scenes groups to 8 each time would decrease the waiting around
the last group had to do - I think two more would fit in.  And I couldn't
hear the tour guide much of the time outside.

Firstly, I'm going to do a "me too" and say what a fantastic time the RLD/LLW experience was - this was my first time, and if you haven't done it already, you will not be disappointed. I can't really justify going back in October :-( but I will (...) (22 years ago, 17-Aug-02, to lugnet.loc.uk)
