to fail catastrophically.

Computers are strange things. The cost often more than £1000 (the one I am on
right now was >£3000), but yet we almost expect them to fail. And when they do
fail, rather than keeping quiet about the fact that we have a dud.... we brag
about how "catastrophically" they have failed us. The same can be said about
software... we accept crashes as being part of the deal. If I bought a fridge
that was as reliable as MS Office... I'd take it right back to the shop.

I know plenty of people how have bought a PC, very few have bought a second
one... myself included. :-)

It may be some time before normal service is resumed.
