As an AFOL attending with my understanding wife, two enthusiatic girls (4 & 6)
and their male freind (3) In thougt I might add our feelings as a 'visitor'...
Firstly, we are not locals to Southport but live roughly 1 hour away in
Northwich and I assume that most of the General public attendees were much
more localised than this.
Notwithstanding it was certainly worth the trip! The show section on the top
floor had an appeal for all ages, despite being relatively undersupported (a
real shame but it did not spoil it for us).
As an AFOL i loved the following;
Working trains
Historical Lego
Lego for sale (historical)
The little ones loved;
The harbour ("DON'T TOUCH!")
The trains (they respect these more)
The models entered by local children
Lego for sale (new)
All in all I would certainly deme this show a success, even though we were
there for little over an hour we met some really nice LEGO nuts (would have
loved to chit-chat more chaps, but for the Raptors).
As a visitor to the show, I would also like to suggest some improvements
(nothing radical, Michael did a superb job)
1. More Lego displays
2. More adverising
3. More trade stalls
Errr.. actually, these are not really improvements at all, just a reflection
on the numbers who could contribute and attend generally.
If this kind of thing is done again (and I sincerely hope it is) it would be
great if some 'hands-on' play could be organised for children and adults
alike. It may be a case that more trade involvement is required to support
this but it would certainly provide an extra dimension to introduce Lego
novices and sustain interest for the under-30's.
A great day, wish I could have stayed longer - thanks to everyone for your
efforts, I am sincerely humbled.
Jon

| Dear All, Just got back from the Southport Show and thought I'd put up a few lines. Firstly thanks to Mike for organising the event. Paul from Busy Bee was there and just three AFOLs displaying and trading but the attendance from the local community (...) (25 years ago, 21-May-00, to lugnet.loc.uk) !
