In article <MPG.1131081227f25cc69896df@lugnet.com>,
richard.dee@nospam.virgin.net had their 2d worth...

On Sat, 13 Feb 1999 18:58:30 GMT, Col uttered the following profundities...
I picked up a copy of the Argos 'Stop Press Savings' leaflet from the shop
in Winchester today..

It has the following :

6977 Insectoid Arachno base  £23.95 (was £47.95)
8462 Recovery truck £32.45 (was £64.95)
6580 Fireball £3.90 (was £7.85)

When I typed in the stock numbers of 6977 and 6580 into the blue stock
checker thingy, both said 'no such item'. The 8462 was 'out of stock'. Tsk.

Interesting that my leaflet was different from Jonathon's

Mine was the same, and they had one in stock (this was a week
ago). However, inspecting the box, found it had formerly been
a return or stock-display version, and promptly didn't bother.
Though the pieces looked very clean, the stickers had been
applied, and there would not necessarily be all pieces present.

Out of curiosity I just tried the Argos Automated 'ring-and-reserve' service,
(0870-603-9080) for the 8462 (Argos Code: 370-8804) with the following results;

Watford Superstore In-stock Price: £32.45
Holborn Out of Stock
New Oxford St. Out of Stock

That's as of 15:45 on 15/02/99

I'm peeved now, I bought mine for 44.95 when the end-of-catalog sale first
started. I could have saved £12.5 if I'd waited. :(  -  Nevertheless still a
Good Set, excellent value at 32quid. Nicely designed around a proper Chassis,
bags of room to motorize (no instructions for it though) Lots of pneumatics,
and those luvly Alloy-look wheels. I must admit to feeling a bit cheated
on that score though, I'd rather assumed that the wheels described as
'aluminium' in the brochures would actually *be* aluminium, not plastic.

I think a Mindstorms driven Sojorner-style Mars rover would look very cool with
these wheels on. :)

Regards, Dave Ryder.
