When you enter Bavaria by road from abroad, there will be a motorway sign
"Wilkommen im Freistaat Bayern" (Welcome to Bavaria). Then you will see a sign
"Willkommen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (Welcome to Germany). I think
that quite illustrates it... ;))
