In a press conference tomorrow, the Bank of Canada will be announcing that a
new series of Bank Notes will be launched. That means new bills in layman's
terms. The first of the new series, the $10 bill will be introduced in November
to be put into circulation in mid-January. It will be followed by the 5, 20, 50
and 100 over the next two to three years (the 1000 that was removed from
circulation in May will not be re-introduced). The new series will still have
the Queen and Prime Ministers on the front but will feature new portraits and
new backgrounds. The new series will also feature the latest in security
features as well as refinements in features for the blind and visually
impaired. Alas, they are being very secretive thus far on the design,
details on security features, and themes of the series until the November
Launch.
If only they could do something about the exchange rate :-(
I must say it was an exciting afternoon here at work. Actually, it was neat to
here some of the stats on counterfeiting.
