I wonder if anyone is interested in putting on a small show at my local
World4kids ? This is in Penrith, an outer suburb of Sydney.

It's in loc.au to try and get tips from anyone else who has possibly done
this on whatever scale form the local school fete to ...

I have mentioned it to an employee there, who relayed it to the manager, who
relayed it back to me that he was quite interested. I have to speak to him in
person though, which I will do in the coming week.

Firstly, let's cover some concerns.
Q. It's a lot of work isn't it ?
A. I'm willing to do most of the legwork, so all other people have to do is
turn up with their MOC's and sit with the models for part of the day,
fielding questions and generally keep an eye on things. I will be there
  the whole day as well.

Q. Why bother ?
A. There might be some benefits, short term and long term.
Raising the profile of the group is one, getting more locals watching and
chatting in loc.au. We could give Lugnet a plug and let adult AFOL's know
they are not alone. As well who knows what treasures are sitting in
cupboards and garages not being used that might be mentioned by viewers.
Doing some publicity for Lego in general might help with our other much
discussed concerns. (If the W.A Pitmans can do it...)

Q. Why Penrith ?
A. It's convenient for me of course to organise the whole thing. But it's
also next to a train station, shopping centre and carpark.
The shop has a large open area in front of a great big window that is on
a street that has a lot of passing traffic. Being a largish shop means
there is plenty of room and you don't have to fit into a window or move
  existing displays.

Q. When ?
A. I guess around the release time of the new batch of sets, which is in July
  sometime ?

Comments ?

Sounds like a great idea! If you'd like my involvement it'd have to be before
July, as I'll be a .loc.uk person after that.

I'll pull out all the stops for a Star Wars display. Mmmmmm... Star Wars
display. A big hanger base display sounds like the go, with a couple of my B-
Wings, a shuttle, a few A-, X- and Y-Wings (everyone in Studs must have at
least one of these sets they can bring to pad it all out), but no Falcon,
that's outa my league at the moment. Need more grey base plates....

I might start working out a design...

(...) I didn't know that you were coming over - I hope you enjoy it (and the cheaper (just) LEGO prices too!) :) Hopefully by that time I'll be a .loc.ca person anyway :) Richard (24 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.loc.uk)
