I'm off to Sydney again this Thursday  and am looking for things to do
whilst there.
Friday night through to Sunday night are occupied but we have time to kill
on the Thursday, part of Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Apart from a day for
shopping in the city, are there any other MUST do things (and yes, we've
seen the bridge and opera house, the rocks and Kings Cross).

Public transport v Private transport:
Public first-
Buses go to most of the beaches, from which there is access to many walks.
There is a walk from Bondi to Bronte Beach past Tamarama Beach, it goes along
the beach then climbs up over the headlands. You can walk as far as you want
and then back or catch the bus from Bronte back. Lots of cafes at Bondi.
Catch the ferry/speedyboat to Manly, where there is a nice walk to Shelly
Beach, which is shorter than the above.
Catch the bus from the city to Watson's Bay from where you can walk to
harbourside beaches and parkland and even out to South Head at the opening to
the harbour. There is a water-side pub at Watson's Bay.
Catch a ferry to the zoo (very touristy).

Private transport-
Drive to Palm Beach, then back to the national park at West Head which has a
stunning view over the central coast and northern beaches.
Drive to the Blue Mountains via Great Western Highway, stop do touristy things
and return via Lithgow and Bells Line of Road, there is a Botanical Garden at
Mount Tomah. There is also Yester Grange at Wentworth Falls on the way to
Katoomba, which is an old house with Devonshire Teas on the clifftop.

If you do plan on taking public transport around Sydney, I recommend that you get a Daytripper ticket. You get all trains, just about all the city buses (not the fancy airport or tourist ones though), and ferries (except the Manly Jetcat) for one (...) (23 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
