    8880 Pleasure..... —Jason King
Well after approximately 5 hours, I just finished building my recently acquired 8880 Supercar, and frankly it lives up to the hype... Very good working features, drivetrain is quite remarkable. The best part is the number of beams and other useful (...) (24 years ago, 17-Jan-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)

(...) Totally agreed, Jason. I also recommend the 8868 AirTech Claw Rig as a pleasant diversion. Expensive and difficult to find, but a wonderful feat of Technic engineering. It has an on-board air compressor! - Sean (24 years ago, 17-Jan-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)

(...) Yeah I also like this model. The only probably I had with the drivetrain is that it's hard to motorize, but other than that it is quite innovative. And yeah, this set comes with tons of beams (I think the only set that might rival it in beam (...) (24 years ago, 18-Jan-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)

(...) lock (...) Well just about. Technically both the "sleeve" and the "ball" make up a CV joint. The CV's on a car are a little more complicated but work pretty much the same way as the LEGO(R) ones. BTW, CV stands for constant velocity. (...)      Yeah i noticed there is a lot of binding in the drivetrain. It seems to be caused by the Perpendicular Axle joiner that is placed in between the bottom suspension arm on the same axle as the bottom of the shocks.. The shocks are also a bit too long. (...)         Re: 8880 Pleasure..... —Ross Crawford
(...) I agree - to a point. I was disappointed with the chain drive to the engine, as it occasionally slips, though this can be reduced. The main thing that disappointed me was the steering geometry. Because the racks are psitioned relatively high, (...) (24 years ago, 17-Jan-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)

         Re: 8880 Pleasure..... —Kerry Raymond
(...) The 8880 is definitely one of the great sets, apart from the chain. I agree that the chain slips (quite often I find) but my main objection to the chain is simply my feeling that it should not be there at all. How many cars really have a chain (...)          Re: 8880 Pleasure..... —Jonathan Reynolds
(...) Personally, I think the 8880 and the Technic Space Shuttle are the best two LEGO sets of all time. I built my 8880 over 3 years ago - it's on display in the house to educate all non-Lego visitors and I still can't bear to break it up. Onto the (...)          Re: 8880 Pleasure..... —John Cromer
Indeed, although I've never personally seen one, I'm told by those who should know (race car drivers) that if you crack the transfer case on a number of modern cars, lo and behold, you will find a heavy-duty chain. as evah, John C. (...) [SNIP] (...) (24 years ago, 21-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)

Re: 8880 Pleasure..... —Jason S. Mantor
Yep. The 8880 is a truly awesome set. I just wish I could find some replacement parts to fix mine : ( Whatever you do, don't let those ultra-rare suspension parts out of your sight ! The only way to get more is to buy another supercar, since parting (...) (24 years ago, 18-Jan-01, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.reviews, lugnet.technic)
