I made a visit to the Brisbane CBD to check out the Lego range.
Here are some of the items of interest (all done from memory, so maybe
worth a phone call to double-check before trekking on in). My own
interests are Mindstorms, Technics, Model Team and Space/Star Wars, so
I didn't look much at other stuff. I'm mostly interested in the larger
sets which seem harder to come by than the smaller sets.

Myer level 2, the Myer Centre, Queen Street

All normal retail prices here, but the only Myer that I have found
in Brisbane that has Mindstorms. On shelf were:

Mindstorms Robotic Invention System 1.5
Mindstorms Extreme Creatures extension pack [not useful IMHO]
Cybermaster in the silver case (8482?)

Technic 8845 Formula I Racer (yellow)
Technic 8448 Supercar Mark 2 (black/red)
Technic 8444 (I think) supercopter

Model Team 5563 Truck
Model Team 5533 Red Fury dragster

Most of the bigger Star Wars (including Episode 1) was available
but with the exception of the 800X droids.

Loads of smaller Technics and space/star wars sets.

Mr Toys / Toyworld, Level 2, Myer Centre, Queen Street [just outside
Myer's toy area -- convenient if you want to compare prices!

No Mindstorms, Cybermaster, Model Team, or larger Technics
generally but big selection of the small and mid-range sets. I
had the impression that there might be a bit of discounting
across a lot of sets, possibly to compete against Myer.

8002 Destoyer Droid $83 (I think someone quoted $99 as an RRP)
One of the other droids (either 8000 or 8001) at about $50.

There was a big discount on a couple of sets of

6979 Space UFO  Interstellar Starfighter, $100 (reduced from $175)

The above did not appear in their "specials" catalogue so I don't
know if this is available in all My Toys / Toyworld stores or just
at this store. It's a large set and nice looking model but I'm not
a UFO fan myself, so I left them on the shelf for the rest of you.

Mr Toys /Toyworld, upstairs from A&R Bookworld, Queen Street (near Games R Us)

This store has a larger floor area than the one in the Myer Centre
but far less Lego. I didn't see anything to interest me, apart from
the 8000 Pit Droid. The sales assistant told me that they expected
to get in more Lego, but had no idea what or when.

David Jones (level 2), Queen Street

Large general selection of Lego, but not much to my taste.
No signs of specials or discounts, did not want to discount
a set with a lot of damage to the box.
No Mindstorms, Cybermaster.
A lot of Star Wars (incl Episode 1) but I don't remember any
800X droids.
Model Team 5563 Truck Model Team
5561 Big Foot [which is available at KMart much cheaper]

They had a Technics 8446 Monster Crane Truck but they sold it
earlier in the day. However, more are expected next week and
they will phone me when they arrive, so add points for customer
service.

Target, Queen Street [the old Coles store]

Same range as my local Indooroopilly Target store. Mostly small
and medium sets. Nothing worthy of special mention.

Summary.

Myer Queen Street and Mr Toys Toyworld in the Myer Centre are the
place to start as between them there is a good range of stuff,
and being so close, you can waltz between them making up your mind.

There is one reason to check out David Jones sporadically, they often have PARTS sets (so you don't have to buy an awful System set to get 5 black 1x1x3 pieces). Otherwise there prices are similar to Myer and range is younger. Thanks for posting as (...) (25 years ago, 3-Apr-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
