Mr Ambasador do you know any thing about the above mentioned project taking
place in all or capital cities sometime in August???
I got a piece of junk mail about it and have not seen anything on here
mentioned.

Pete,
Here is the blurb I received from EWB on commencement of the project:
Australian public to combat climate change by building wind turbines!
During Engineering Week 2007 (August 20-24), the Australian public will help
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) to combat climate change by building Lego™ wind
turbines across our capital cities!
The aims of the initiative are:
° To raise public awareness of:
- Engineers Without Borders
- the impact of climate change on developing communities
- the roles of engineering and appropriate technologies in addressing climate change
° To increase the uptake of Green Power accredited electricity, and to challenge
people to reduce their overall carbon footprint
° To raise funds for EWBs renewable energy programs
Whats involved:
° The wind turbines will be approximately 2m tall! Upon completion they will
actually rotate.
° Upon giving a gold-coin donation to EWB, people will be given Lego™ bricks to
add to the wind turbine construction.
° EWB aims to construct the wind turbines in popular public spaces in Melbourne
(Federation Square), Sydney (Martin Place), Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and
possibly other Australian cities.
° Webcams and monitors will be set up at each construction site, so that people
can see the progress in other cities. Which city will be first to complete their
wind turbine?
° Information on the following topics will be on display at the construction
sites:
- The impact of climate change on Nepal (glacial melts, shorter growing season, etc)
- EWBs past and present renewable energy programs in Nepal (wind and solar)
- Australias greenhouse emissions compared to Nepals
- What Australians can do to reduce their carbon footprint
Note that the height will be 2m to the top of the tower - making the total
height almost 3m. I have been consulting with them on the design.
It appears the dates may be different in each state - you can find some more
information in their calendar here.
Hope this helps,
ROSCO

| (...) Rosco I got the same crap in an Email as well and have asked a few questions of Mr Ackland about why is Lego being the medium for this project and why wern't the local Adult Lego Groups used to build it instead of some engineers. As this is (...) (17 years ago, 28-Jul-07, to lugnet.loc.au, FTX)
