Went to the Lego Creator Show at Myer Melbourne today. Wasn't expecting much
from this as the last few have been really really lame. Though in no way
comparable to the Lego World Shows of the 1980s, this was far superior to
any of TLC's recent events (or at least in the  mind of an AFoL or
collector).

The large lego giraffe is the first thing you see and it's quickly followed
by the oversized spider. Neat. Very Neat. The first few cabinets you see
contain current line toys. There's actually quite a few of these but they
usually have a button or two that can be pushed to activate some form of
motion or light. Pretty standard stuff. By now you can see the large
building area for the kids. This is actually pretty cool in itself and much
better than the usual standard building table. Across the way, you spy a
Holy Grail of Lego collecting - a town plan board, with houses and cars!
It's got its own cabinet and is in beautiful condition. Drool..

Moving on to the centre piece reveals some region specific models. This show
has obviously come from Japan or somewhere similar - I'm actually guessing
about that as I didn't check to see what language the signs were written in.
Maybe someone else can check that for me :)  In the centre piece there's the
Opera House from Sydney, the TV tower from Auckland, a Malaysian building,
one from Singapore, one from Japan and the great wall of China. Sorry about
not getting the details of the buildings but we were only there for a short
time. Seeing these models was kind of like being back at Legoland but only
smaller.

A large range of Lego at 20% off greeted us at the end of the exhibit.
Didn't see many people buying though. The discount applies whilst the
display is on.

Forgot to mention that one of the cabinets featured the Fabrik video as seen
at Legoland Germany. It even starts with a shot of the building where the
exhibit is located at the German Legoland. Sadly though, you don't get a
free brick at this one :)

To finish off the exhibit, the other half of the hall is devoted to the Myer
Christmas Windows of the past 50 years. Worth checking out by itself for
those who are feeling nostalgic.

X-posted to the MUGS lists and my LJ. Apologies to those who have seen it
more than once :)

cheers

Sue Ann
