I searched the Customs WWW site to find out if there is any difference
between the taxes etc applicable to new vs used goods. Failing to find any
information, I sent an e-mail to their contact address
information@customs.gov.au and had an answer back in about 2 minutes (so • top
marks for efficient communication to Customs).

The answer is (unfortunately) simple. There is no different treatment of
used goods.

Anyhow, there's the e-mail address if you want clarification of any other
Lego-importing issues. Why speculate when you can get the facts from the
horse's mouth?

Kerry

Apologies for sticking my nose in local business.   I am wondering if this
has changed recently?  A couple of years ago,  my Quilt Guild (US) sent
fabric to a group in Australia.  The fabric we sent was new.  We were
instructed to go ahead  and wash it (most quilters preshrink fabric before
use anyway), but not to iron it so it could legitimately come into the
country as used, thus saving the receipts some funds.

(...) That's the line of thought I was following. Used Lego, has a much lower 'market value' surely. thanks, Sheree, visitors to loc.au are always welcome ! pete.w (24 years ago, 9-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
