Not wishing to seem like I appreciate the high costs...I think the reason
that lego is much cheaper in the US than any othey country is...wait for
it...They produce it there. This means no import duties, low transport
costs, etc. Unfortunately, unless TLG decide to push up the US cost for sets
and parts to help subsidise the rest of the world and therefore make the
prices equivalent [give each set a $US value, and then translate that into
the prices for each country, based on the $US standing against that country
at the start of the year] We'll be stuck with the highest prices. After all,
it has to travel much further to get to us...and then on arrival, the good
stuff gets hi-jacked by NZ :(

or to look at it this way
                           US           Aus
AAT                  $20           $60      x3
X-Wing              $30          $85       x2.9
Y-Wing+Tie       $50          $130     x2.6
Millenium Falcon $100       $260 (max)

Import cost=
$100US * 1.7 (dollar to peso) = $170+~10%=$190+post= approx $220

RRP=$359

Who is making the profit ?

Once again LA make it difficult to buy Lego and deprive • Australian youth of
the toy they should be playing with (sigh!!)

Hi Studs, LEGOzzers, and victims of the Australian Peso,

Just rang Lego Aust @ Lane Cove.

Set 7190 (Mil. Falcon) is due for release at end of July • (28th I think).

I totally forgot the exact date when the helpful lady • told me the pre GST
rrp of $359.00. If it goes up 10% thats $395.00

And stupid me has been steering my kids away from 7150 • (Y-Wing and TIE
Fighter) telling them to wait for Millenium Falcon • ('cause its about
$120.00).

Arrgggghhhhh.

Mike (insert sobs here).

P.S. I'll go with Benjamin's idea on the Minifig sets from OS

(...) Actually, LEGO is produced all over. Denmark, Switzerland, and the US. Different pieces are built at different factories. If I am not mistaken, Switzerland deals especially with TECHNIC, the US with SYSTEM and MINDSTORMS, and Denmark with all (...) (24 years ago, 8-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
