One more thing. From what I have seen of the Mindstorms books, most of them
put fairly heavy emphasis on programming but little on mechanical
construction (apart from providing plans for the robots in the book, but not
general principles).
If you are like me and are looking for something that gives more emphasis to
the mechanical side rather than just the progamming, then as far as I know
there is only one book that specialises on that topic:
Building Robots with Lego Mindstorms, Ferrari & Ferrari (which was on the
list at Dymocks)
However, I must stress that I have not seen the book itself and am just
judging by the reviews which were full of praise (see the Amazon site for
detailed customer reviews). But I am intending to buy it myself when I have
some spare time to sit down and experiement - should that great and glorious
day ever come :-)

information and reviews
