I actually like to order that way. I don't buy an item or two, I wait every
three or four months to purchase a lot of items. But the nice thing about
ordering "backordered" items is that it saves me money. The items that are
not backordered get delivered immediately, and those items, along with the
shipping costs, are charged to my card. But the other items do not get
charged until they ship, and I do not pay shipping charges on those items.
This spreads the payment over several credit card payments, so it's like I
ordered the item, but get free shipping.
At least, that's how it's worked for me in the states.
