Sadly, it’s not that the molds are wearing out, I’m pretty sure it’s that the *new* molds are smooth. This has been noted also on the 2x2x3 slopes as well, and probably other slopes too. I’m not sure what the reasoning is behind it, other than to perhaps make things a bit more uniform. Slope bricks have come a long way from their original intended use as roofs for houses.

I've been meaning to post this for quite a while but have forgotten to. (URL) This post> reminded me. Regarding from the year 2006 that contain piece 3309, Slope 45 2 x 2 [LDrawPart 3039] The slope part of these bricks is supposed to be pretty (...) (18 years ago, 23-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)
