Hi Suzanne,

This may have been discussed before.  What is the posting etiquette for LEGO
Factory creations?  Can folks still use .announce.moc and a related theme
(e.g. .space) or will they get flamed into having to post to something like
.market.buy-sell-trade?  I think since it's TLG making the profit off of any
sale, and not the designer, that the designer should still be able to use
.announce.moc, etc.  I feel this would go a long way towards helping the
success of LEGO Factory and in the long term help out the future of 9V trains
which seems to depend on LEGO Train Factory success.  I'm just thinking that
if LEGO Factory MOCs get buried in a .market group they'll get a lot less
exposure, excitement, etc. than if they can get posted in the same was as
traditional MOCs have been posted.

Thanks,
Paul D.

This is a good question. I imagine this would be sort of case-by-case. Is there
an existing history yet?

I personally don't think such posts would be received badly unless they were
annoying and obviously in one's own self-interest, but I can't know for sure. I
hope some other people reply here with their thoughts.

I'm of the opinion that any MOCs are exciting, including those from Factory
(even though they may be smaller/less-fancy than ones designed without so many
restrictions).

Certainly there -could- be people who would use this sort of gray area to their
advantage, for instance: someone who sells a model via their personal commercial
website goes to Factory and builds it there, then posts a MOC announcement about
it weekly with only a minor color change each time, stating that it also happens
to be available via their personal site as a kit for lower cost, or somesuch...
(Perhaps Factory rules even prohibit such a practice?) I can imagine that person
getting flamed if they were politely asked to not keep doing it yet they did.
But IMO it'd be a shame for that mere possibility to preclude such an otherwise
good thing.

Of course, it could get irritating too if someone did the same sort of repeated
posting with (instead of a commercial plug) a hearty request for us all to go
vote for it on the Factory website so they could "be famous". I don't know. Heh,
it might depend on how well-liked the model was!

I don't think it warrants it's own sub-group, though that seems an obvious
suggestion. If some readers hated getting the Factory model announcements and
began to complain, I might make the social-suggestion (not rule) of including a
text indicator in the title of the post, like so:

  Bird models [Factory]
or,
  Suz's first mega-Mecha mercenaries [Factory]

In the interest of promoting LEGO Factory, I'd encourage asking the curators of
different groups here to showcase nice Factory designs done by people in their
individual LUGNET community. Curators could handle such a feature as they
wished, either by taking submissions posted to their group, having a contest, or
pro-actively looking on Factory and picking out highlights.

At the NELUG (New England LEGO Users Group) website (http://www.nelug.org/), a
few months back, Eric Kingsley and others were featured simply by NELUG members
peeping up with pride. I thought it was very exciting to see names I knew from
here get voted into the top few spots at the official site!
