In lugnet.harrypotter, David Simmons writes:
I enjoyed the Harry Potter books that I borrowed from my folks.  I didn't
think that they were as great as the hype.  They were fun, but imminently
forgettable.  Kinda like a good comic book, entertaining with perhaps a
moral or two, but nothing to live your life by or through.

Not much of an HP fan myself, I read the books, not for
the hype, but simple due to the fact I needed a good read.
They were okay, I would admit, but I think mister Chris
Suellentrop went a little berserk bashing poor Harry. (ouch!)

I agree with many of the writer's comparisons and analysis, but I don't
harbor the kind of vitriol that I sense lurking underneath his words.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my time writing a critique as this as I
wouldn't consider it worth the effort.  Harry Potter is extremely popular,
but that's no reason to hate it or tear it down.  If it brings joy and
happiness to people than that's a good thing.

I'm surprised this contreversial article (IMO) reached
MSN's homepage. Seems rather ironic that Suellentrop,
even though he holds such animosity towards HP, would
bother to read the books himself, doesn't it? Here's
wondering to what Rowling would say when she sets her
eyes upon this one.

He seems to imply that it's inherently bad for kids
to read HP. Even with imperfections, is it right to
pick the book apart for every small imperfection, and
then throw it at the fan base with a sneer? Not good...

BTW, while you could say the same about Star Wars . . . oh, forget it, I'm
not gonna stoke that fire again!

Nah. best not to aggrivate that...

Laughable, to say the least...I might
FUT this to .ot geek...

Peace out,
