On the positive side, there are signs that TLG are beginning to re-understand
their product - specifically labelling boxes 'Classic' shows that they at least
have a vague concept of the retero-value of Lego. The new castle range could
have easily been a new theme "Super Mutated Hip-Hop Space Monkeys". Well hang
on, that actually sounds as if it could be cool, but you get the point :)
The question is how would they re-release a set from an old range? If they
release one popular pirate set, then we'd all jump up and applaud - but only
having one set to play with from a range is *very* limiting to *play* with for
a child, so they'd have to re-release more than one set from that theme or
re-invent the theme anew.
In response to the original post - because of this I don't think that we'll see
Classic Space on the shelves again - it's no longer high-tech enough (therein
lies some of the appeal), and they've already reinvented it in increasingly
vulgar (IMHO) incarnations ending with Insectiods. They'd either have to put a
massive investment into re-releasing Classic Space as one of their yearly
themes, or make a 'small' run and offer it mail order.
This is just my opinion though, and I'd love to be wrong :)
