I have been reading (mostly lurking) on RTL for over five
years now, and don't remember the subject of the sounds of Lego being
discussed.  The sounds you hear while digging through a pile of Lego
pieces searching for the right part are unique to the Lego experience.

For my Lego collection, I sort my Lego pieces into about 14
categories (I'm to lazy to go further) and  I noticed that each
category sounded slightly different as I was rummaging through the
container holding the pieces.  What better subject for a contest?  So
I created one!

Subject:  Mathew's Lego Sound Contest
Object:   Match ten sounds to the  types of Lego pieces
Prize Lego Halloween #3047 "Trick or Treat" bucket
Address: http://www.uravan.com/lego/contest.htm
Ending Date: The winner will be selected October 25th, 1999
Description:   I recorded ten sounds, 2 seconds in length, and saved
as "wav" format.   The sounds were made by moving around Lego blocks
of one category, for example 1 by X plates (a group of only 1x2, 1x3,
1x4, 1x6, ect plates).   These categories are;
1.  Wheels and tires
2   Rounds (rockets, radar dishes, ect)
3.  Regular Bricks (2 by 4, ect)
4.  1 by X plates
5.  2 by X plates
6.  3+ by X plates (wings, ect)
7.  Plants (trees, bushes, ect)
8.  Thin wall pieces (castle walls, BURPs, ect)
9.  Transparent (windshields, ect)
10.  Slopes (roof pieces, ect)

Rules:  One entry per person, winner will be selected
randomly from the nearest number of correct guess.  If you live in the
United States I will try my best to have the prize arrive by
Halloween.  If the Winner lives outside the USA, I will probably have
to send it surface mail to save money :)

Notes:   I wasn't totally happy with the results of the
recordings.  I had trouble "capturing" the sounds on the computer as I
hear them in real life.  If I were to enter the contest, I would be
guessing on a few of them.   Let me know if you have any questions or
problems.     Good luck
