You came up with the answer yourself: it's a craze over new things. As a kid
when classic space came out, I remember looking for any new classic set I
didn't have yet. You must remember that generally speaking, the younger
someone is, the more they are prone to effects of novelty. And as such, sets
will sell.

According to the Fibblesnork LEGO Guide, the order of space themed sets goes like this: 1978-1990 Classic Space 1987-1993 Futuron 1987-1990 Blacktron I 1989-1991 Space Police I 1990-1992 M:Tron 1991-1995 Blacktron (...) (25 years ago, 13-Aug-99, to lugnet.general)
