Hi Tony,
Thanks for the interest : )
Forty feet up in a 60 foot tall white oak , there is a "deck" construction,
one frame box, built with 2x8 deck wood, placed into the forks of four
branches, then another frame box built on top of it, but not attached. The top
box has 10' 2x4 deck boards on 2x8 frame boards. This allows the lower box to
flex in the wind while the top box stays solid. It's been up there five years
now : ). Total space is about 10 foot square , with a trunk thru an opening
off center in the deck. I used seatbelt webbing as a railing and we use rope
ascending gear to go up a 7/16 static line. Rapelling gear is used to descend.
I built it so we could train for caving rope work. There are no nails into the
tree. Its great to sleep up there when it's cooler. Lots of fun tossing small
gi-joes with sometimes opening chutes<grin>.
