Hi all.

Last spring I was accepted into MIT's Media Lab as a Grad student. I
started on June 1st.

At this time, I think it's important for everyone in this community to
understand some consequences of my new position.

I no longer work for anyone but the Media Lab (full-time plus).
I must be careful around intellectual property issues and
potential conflicts of interest concerning Todd's work.
I cannot use my position at the ML as any special benefit to LUGNET.
(I don't "represent" the ML in discussions)

One consequence of this is that we will need to remove Suzanne's name
temporarily from certain web pages (for example, the AucZILLA and LUGNET
homepages) as part of a verbal agreement with Suzanne's advisors at the Lab
about "mindshare" and outside business.  While you're at the Media Lab, they
want your whole brain...so temporarily means about two years -- the
approximate duration of the degree program.  We can keep Suzanne's name on
historical documents, however, since these represent work completed prior to
June 1.

As I understand it, this wouldn't normally be much of an issue, except some
of the core concepts of LUGNET are potential conflicts of interest since the
Lab has at least one group of folks which focuses on news and virtual
communities and things like that.  So Suz is not allowed to contribute
fundamentally to the development of LUGNET while she's at the Lab.  She can
of course still continue to post as a regular user like anyone else; she
just can't use her position or title at the Lab to promote or give any
special benefit to LUGNET.

I'll continue reading newsgroups as normal. You may occasionally see a
post or reply from me. The community of adult LEGO enthusiasts will
always be special to me. I'll never stop building or playing with my
LEGO collection.

:-)

Heh heh, we'll see about that when your thesis gets fully underway!
(Just kidding :-)  If you ever stop building or playing with your LEGO
collection, I'll have to have to have my eyes checked.  :-)

The only other thing I can think of to announce is that I'll have a new
web page (nothing on it yet) and new e-mail address (but old ones still
work):

    http://www.media.mit.edu/~suz/
    suz@media.mit.edu

that's it! Good-bye...

-Suz.

Can I tell people who your thesis advisor is?  :-)
