The Brickworld Team has arranged to create and execute a Build On-The-Spot
(BOTS) challenge at this years event. This challenge will be completed in
addition to the regular Mindstorms displays and events.
As some may remember, in April 2005, TLG created and held an event in
Billund. The event was attended by many who later became MUP, MDP and MCP
members supporting the Mindstorms community. In Billund the teams were given
a challenge at 3:30 PM Saturday afternoon and the contest began at noon on
Sunday. We dont want people going sleepless for the BOTS challenge at
Brickworld and we dont want it to interfere with the remainder of the event.
So, the BOTS challenge will begin at 1 PM on Thursday afternoon. The contest
will be held Thursday evening starting at 8 PM. (times are subject to
adjustment)
The BOTS challenge requires that you and your team gain comprehension of the
rules, construct a robot and program your robot in the 7 hours between 1 PM
and 8 PM. The BOTS rules will be revealed at 1 PM. The rest is up to you.
To preregister and guarantee your team a spot in the challenge, you need to
reply to this post. All competitors and teams will be public knowledge.
And, speaking of teams; one rule TLG put in place that helped make the event
fun was that there are 3 people required per team. We are holding on to that
rule. So, sign up in groups of 3. And, all competitors must be fully
registered Brickworld attendees.
As for the rest of the rules...well, your guess is, uh...your guess.
Many thanks to Brian Davis for volunteering to sit out the BOTS challenge and
run it!!
We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!!!
Regards, the Brickworld Team
Brickworld will be held June 18 - 21, 2009 at the Westin North Shore Hotel
in Wheeling, IL (a suburb of Chicago).

Attention everyone!!
Okay - is everyone listening?
We are modifying the conditions of the BOTS challenge in response to feedback
received from the community.
1) You do not need team mates. You can compete as an individual or a team.
2) You do not need to provide your own Mindstorms kit for the challenge. We
would prefer that you do. But, many people will be using their NXT(s) to build
robots for the other competitions before coming to Brickworld. And, we dont
want you to miss out on BOTs. So, we will have a number of NXT sets available
for use in the BOTS challenge. If too many people want the kits, we will ask
you to team up.
3) We will have a stash of parts beyond the NXT kit available. So, we will
be limiting parts to an NXT kit plus parts from the stash we provide.
We hope you find these rules level the playing field for people flying to
Brickworld.

| (...) I plan to compete. Well, maybe not compete, but I will try to build something, likely using a provided nxt and the stash, or maybe I'll bring mine, who knows. Either way, I'll be there trying to make things either interesting, entertaining, or (...) (16 years ago, 20-May-09, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)
