0.055 inch would be correct. It never crossed my mind that 0.5 = 1/2.
I don't use my calipers often enough to correctly interpret its output every
time I do. Lesson learned: Double, uh, no, triple-check the readout (and make
shure I'm interpreting it correctly).
If I worked in a machine shop, it would be another story.
