I am still working on mapping out the many variations of old Lego set and idea
book numbers (for the Lego CD) from the 1950's and 1960's, and there are 3 Lego
item numbers that stand out as having ENORMOUS quantities of variations. They
are:
1) #700/x - Under the #700 banner there are probably 100-130 different set and
parts that fit under the #700/x banner (this could get to be as high as 200
different by the time I am finished finding all the different 1955-58 language
variations). #700/x is the first set number ever used by TLG in 1949. Until
1955, every single Lego basic set, parts pack, or individual parts sales, was
under the #700 number. #700/x was used from 1949-65. The major sub heading for
#700/x are:
#700, #700/0, #700/1, #700/2, #700/3, #700/3A, #700/4, #700/5, #700/6, #700/E,
#700/K.
2) #214 - Under the #214 classic windows/doors banner there are at least 80
different parts packs and dealer parts boxes that start with this number. #214
was used from 1956-65. The major sub headings for #214 are:
#214 1-10 (retailer box), #214, #214/1, #214/2, #214/3, #214/4, #214/5, #214/6,
#214/7, #214/8, #214/9, #214/10.
3) #238 - This is the number for the first numbered Building Idea Book that Lego
produced. It was produced from 1960-68 in 9 major variations. Two of these
variations (for continental Europe) were produced in at least 12 language
versions. All together there are over 35 different Idea Books that can fall
under #238.
I have been working on building tables for showing the many variations of these
3 Lego numbers for the Lego CD.... not an easy task, but a fun one!
