No those are bricks (otherwise it would beg the question "when did they make
macaroni plates?"). The white plates in the model would all be waffle bottom.
Plates in other colors (besides white and a few rare red ones from the 50's)
first came out in 1963. That was when circle bottom plates first came out, and
they were only in the small sizes (1x1, 1x2, 2x2, 2x3 and 2x4). Larger plates
in other colors besides white and gray generally came out in the 70's. But
there are a few rare exceptions such as black and red 4x8 waffle bottom plates
from the 60's.
