I was just looking at set #700 in the LUGNET database.  There were 17 items
under this heading.  That number will be getting bigger.  The #700/1 set shows 2
different versions of the set in the Lugnet database (the 1949-52 and 1958-59
version).  Astonishingly enough many of these early sets will have up to 5
different versions.  The #700/1 is one of them.  There is a 1949-52 version, a
1953-56 version, a 1957 version, a 1958-59 version, and a 1960-65 version.
#700/1, like many of the other early #700/x sets was produced with different box
designs, under the same number for an astonishing 17 years, from 1949-65.

Having different versions of the same set is not all that uncommon even in the
1970's.  There is parts pack #990 produced from 1969 until the mid 70's.  It
contained 1x6/1x8 white named beams, Lego trees, a flag and and an antenna.
Version 1 of this parts pack contains 1960's style trees (plus a bush).  Version
2 contains the granulated trees, and version 3 contains the conical and pine
trees of today, but made of very NON-flexible plastic.

The most valuable of the #990 sets is version 2 with the short-lived granulated
trees.  The next most valuable is the version 1 with the 60's trees/bushes.  And
of course the least valuable of the versions is the one that has the trees still
in use today, namely version 3.
