Jon wanted small, square thumbs. Since they were so small we figured the distortion wouldn’t be that bad, compared to simply clipping the image. (This is all automatic of course. So cropping on a per image basis isn’t a possibiliy.) You’re the second person to mention this, so do you think it is that noticeable? Are there any certian thumbs that show this clearly?

Well sure... the distortion mostly isn’t noticeable. If you can’t tell what the pictures are showing, then what does it matter that they’re horizontally squeezed?

Many of your thumbs are not very helpful at actually determining what they take you to. In addition to the size issue, you don’t pick specific images for the thumb- you just grab the first image from the gallery. Those images aren’t always appropriate. From the model index, here are some examples:

YT-800: This looks like one of those styrofoam-breast-looking things that you put over your outside faucets in the winter to keep them from freezing.
Bot Factory MINI: Is that a 2x2 printed tile?
Toshiro: This image just doesn’t parse... until you know what it is, it’s really hard to find any lines that make sense.
Selkie: Odd angle, hard to see what it is.
Bardiel: When my kids were in the NICU, they were in little clear boxes that look like this thumbnail image.
...

Having a short text description would help a lot too- in alt text if you don’t want the clutter. “The huge ship Bardiel”, “Q-Wing Fighter”, “Jetpack”
