Can it be old molds? Wasn´t the "older" bricks without holes?
(I allways thought that the "invention" of holes was a way to make better
economics.. and from what I have read about "Lego-economy" I thougt they
would make bigger holes instead. =)

See this comparison: (URL) older brick on the left has holes in the bottom studs, but more importantly, the flanges on studs 2 & 4 don't go all the way to the (...) (21 years ago, 3-Apr-04, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.general)
