Any information would be appreciated.
I'll provide a little of the most requested info. Please email me if I may be of
further assistance. I'm a bit of a collector of vintage info.

o Two large 10 x 20 lt-gray bricks. Studs on top say LEGO, no tubes on the
bottom, only some cross braces. A minifig I tried to put on one of them did
not clutch very well (possibly not at all).
These were in common use during the 1960's. I'm not sure of the timeline for
these bricks. The clutching factor usually describes a warped CA brick. But in
this case, I think it's more due to wear. I have several of those base bricks,
and few of them have strong clutch power.
Someone else already posted a link to pictures of them in my BS folder.

o Several 2x2 & 2x4 bricks in white and red with a Smaller LEGO logo on them.
Stylized with what appears to be an open 'O' on the end. Bottom of these parts
say Pat Pend. Also noted one 1x2 plate with this same logo. Bricks have tubes on
the bottom, but make a different sound when dropped on a counter top.
Same early Logos

The sound is probably from CA (cellulose acetate - an early kind of plastic). If
the bricks show any kind of warping on the walls, then they are probably CA.
It's easy to tell with red and yellow bricks, they are a different, lighter
color. The color difference in other bricks is harder to see. CA bricks were
produced until 1963, but have been found mixed into sets as late as 1968. All
bricks since that time have been ABS.

The patent pending isn't as helpful. I've found both CA & ABS bricks with Pat.
Pending marks. It means a patent was applied for, but I'm still not clear which
country the application would be in (country of production, or distribution).
For a given brick in a given country, the date of application, and the date of
granting would theoretically be knowable.

Here's an estimated timeline for brick variants (warning HUGE photo file)

Here's the text description of the bricks in the above photo:

There are at least 3 more variants that I haven't found yet, but have been
informed of by others.

If you like such things, you may wish to browse my website, or Brickshelf
folders (links below). I'm always available to answer questions.

Hope that helps,
Clark

Yesterday I picked up a bucket of bricks from a thrift store ... (this is usually how these stories begin) and several of the bricks in there caught my eye. Any information would be appreciated. o Two large 10 x 20 lt-gray bricks. Studs on top say (...) (20 years ago, 17-Feb-04, to lugnet.general)
