Hello,
One of my co-workers brought in an old brick that his wife had, and was
looking for some information on it.  I'm fairly certain I have seen another
post about this type of brick in the past, but I wasn't successful in
tracking it down.

Here is a picture, shown with a normal 1x4 for size comparison:

My co-worker's wife's aunt got the brick while she worked at the LEGO plant
in Loveland, Colorado.  (The plant, unfortunately, was closed down [many]
years ago.)

To sum up, we would like to try to figure out about how old the brick is,
what set(s) it came in, etc.  Any help is much appreciated.

That is a Pre-School brick. Made only by Samsonite, and only in two sets that I
know of. Set 041 only had white & red bricks.

Your blue one came in set 503 which had yellow, red, white, and blue. That set
isn't listed on Lugnet, but here's a pic of the set at the Lego history display
in LLCA:

Many people think these are pre-Duplo, but not really. They do not fit normal
Lego, are based on 'perfect' 1" x 2" x 4" dimensions, and are made of a
different plastic than either CA or ABS system bricks. My guess as to age is
1967 or later. The gear set pictured with 503 is from the early 1970's.

The plant was probably a Samsonite plastics factory. They held the rights to
distribute Lego products in the US from 1963 to the late 1970's (and continued
in Canada into the early 1980's). I'm building an information page on Samsonite
sets & parts. If your source has any material from the plant, I'd be interested
in the information or pics.

I'm always available via email to help with any vintage questions. If you like

Hope that helps,
