I just had a very strange idea. What if a 2x2 tile could be heat treated so
as to coax up the surface plastic into wispy fibers? Would minifigs like
carpet? Would a beat clad in such tiles be fur? What if a 2x2 brick could
have its studs transformed into carpet? Then minifigs could walk on it
comfortably.

(...) You've been performing Lego modification experiments in the kitchen again, haven't you? Heating ABS? And inhaling the fumes? :-) Maggie C. (who visited the purple slopes again, but of course there is no point) (23 years ago, 25-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) buy velcro adhesive strips and use the "soft" velcro part to attach to the tile--voila--carpet! jeff (23 years ago, 26-Apr-02, to lugnet.general)
