New England Youth Set to Compete At First LEGO® League Competition; Intel
Sponsors RoboNautica Event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute

WORCESTER, Mass. -First LEGO® League teams from Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut and even Pennsylvania are slated to compete at RoboNautica, a
competition sponsored by Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, March 2.

"We expected to see a number of teams from Massachusetts, but we're
delighted to see accomplished teams from several other states!" said Michael
Sherman, RoboNautica's organizer. The competition begins at Worcester
Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Harrington Auditorium at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
"The teams compete and have a terrific time, and at this event, they also
have the opportunity to help the AIDS Project Worcester," explained Sherman.
"Veteran Lego Leaguers will tell you that with each passing year, their
collection of unused LEGO parts piles up in closets and attics. We've
encouraged teams to donate their unused LEGOs to APW. We're expecting a
mountain of LEGOs."

Intel Corporation is sponsoring the RoboNautica competition with WPI.

"This program is a great step toward helping middle school students enjoy
the world of engineering. It underscores the message that math and science
are important subjects in which to excel," said Robert W. Richardson, East
Coast Education Program Manager.

Attendance to watch the competition is free of charge, and families are welcome.

"This is a great event for families, especially those with children in
grades K through 5," said Sherman. "Its very rewarding to see how excited
the kids get about creating the robots and running them through their paces."

Information about the competition is available at www.wpi.edu/+robonautica
or email robonautica@wpi.edu.

About First LEGO® League:

FIRST LEGO League is a program for children aged 9 through 14. Using LEGO®
Mindstorm™ technology, teams of seven to 10 members build a robot and
compete in friendly events designed especially for their age group. They use
LEGO "elements" such as bricks, sensors, motors and gears, and gain hands-on
experience in engineering and computer programming principles as they
construct and program their unique inventions.

While the tournaments decide who built the best robot, their true purpose is
to recognize and celebrate those achievements of the team that are far more
important than how many points were scored.

Awards are given for excellence in teamwork, creative thinking, design
skills, overcoming obstacles, communication, research, and leadership among
others. The most prestigious award is the Director's Award given to the team
that best demonstrates respect, encouragement, and continued gracious
professionalism in the heat of competition, both in and out of the arena.
